The copper pipes of the potable water system in the housing dorms on San Clemente Island were originally installed using lead based solder. As a result, the lead levels in the dorms’ potable water system exceeded allowable limits by as much as 900%. Pre-test water samples were taken and lead levels in the water were determined to be 135 ppb versus the allowable limit of 15 ppb.
